Moody Gallery is pleased to present Ideal Dream, an exhibition of new work by Claire Ankenman. This marks her third solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition features a series of new stainless steel and cast acrylic sculptures. In this body of work, she explores the ways in which the formal qualities of material, color and light elicit emotional responses in the viewer. Ankenman writes, “Experimentation with contrasting materials has always been my focus. The solidity of steel, the transparency of acrylic, and the iridescence of light combine to become agents of transcendence.”
Claire Ankenman was born in Victoria, Texas in 1947 and currently lives and works in Houston, Texas. She studied at the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston from 1985 to 1991. Her work has been included in a solo exhibition at the Galveston Arts Center as well as group exhibitions at Lawndale Art Center, the Blaffer Art Museum, DiverseWorks, Art League Houston, Williams Tower Gallery, and Women and Their Work as well as other venues. Her work is included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, AT&T Stadium: Dallas Cowboys Art Collection, Arlington, U.S. Trust, Dallas, and many private collections.
The exhibition Ideal Dream will be on view at Moody Gallery June 9 through July 7, 2018. A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, June 9 from 5-7 pm. An Artist Talk with Clint Willour will begin at 5 pm.
