Press Release:
Page Kempner
Making Notes in the Margins
January 13 - February 17, 2018
Reception for the artist Saturday, January 13, 5-7 pm
Moody Gallery is pleased to announce Making Notes in the Margins, an exhibition featuring new work by Page Kempner. Kempner’s painted cast bronze sculptures are representational and the imagery is drawn primarily from her own garden, depicting the weeds and plants found at fence lines and edges. Consisting both of wall-dependent and freestanding sculpture, Making Notes in the Margins is a careful study of the gap between map and territory.
Page Kempner was born in Houston, Texas, where she currently works and resides. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pomona College, Claremont, California and also studied at the University of Houston, Texas. Her work has been included in solo exhibitions at The Nave Museum, Victoria, Texas and The Galveston Arts Center, Texas and group exhibitions at The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, The Tyler Museum of Art, Texas, The Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma and The Beeville Art Museum, Texas. Her work is also part of the permanent collections of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, The Menil Collection, and the Houston Airport System, City of Houston, as well as many private collections.
Making Notes in the Margins will be on view at Moody Gallery January 13 through February 17, 2018. A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, January 13 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Moody Gallery is located at 2815 Colquitt, Houston, Texas 77098. The gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10:30-5:00, and Saturday, 11:00-5:00.
