A 2012 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow, Dornith Doherty was born in Houston, Texas and received a B.A. cum laude from Rice University and a MFA in Photography from Yale University. She currently resides in Southlake and is Distinguished Research Professor of Art at the University of North Texas. In addition to the Guggenheim Fellowship, she has also received grants from the Fulbright Foundation, the Japan Foundation, the Society for Contemporary Photography, the Indiana Arts Commission, and the United States Department of the Interior. She was named 2016 Texas State Artist 2D by the Texas State Legislature.
Doherty’s work has been featured in exhibitions in the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, (2014), The Exchange, Penzance, England, (2014), the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (2014), the Amon Carter Museum of Art, (2013), Tucson Museum of Art, (2013), the Museum of Photography, Rafaela, Argentina, (2013), the Museum Belvédère, the Netherlands, (2012), the New Mexico Museum of Art, (2011), the Bluecoat, Liverpool, England (2011), the Centro de Fotografía Isla de Tenerife, Spain (2011), and the Encuentros Abiertos Photography Biennial in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2010).
